When you update WordPress, your Web site briefly goes into maintenance mode. If there are problems with the update or a timeout, the website may get stuck in maintenance mode. In this case you and your visitors will only see a white page with the message to come back at a later time. There is a simple solution to this problem:
ERROR: Content Element with uid "87464" and type "proximity" has no rendering definition!
Disable maintenance mode via FTP
This allows you to deactivate the maintenance mode via FTP after a failed WordPress update:
- Access your webspace via SFTP
- You can use FileZilla as an FTP client, for example.
- Transfer files via SFTP with FileZilla
- Open the folder /path-to-their-wordpress-website/
- Locate and delete the file . maintenance

Disable plugins via FTP
If problems persist, it is often due to an incompatible plugin. So you can deactivate all plugins and then reactivate them step by step to simply isolate the problematic plugin:
- Access your webspace via SFTP.
- Open the folder /path-to-your-wordpress-website/wp-content/
wp-content you will find the folder plugins.
- Rename the folder plugins (FileZilla: Right click on folder plugins > Rename). For example
If the problem was with a plugin, you should now be able to log back in to your WordPress site.
- Log in as usual.
- Rename the plugins_deactivated folder to plugins.
- In the WordPress Admin, switch to the Plugins area. Since
WordPress could not find the Plugins folder during login, your plugins were automatically deactivated.
- Activate your plugins step by step until the problem reoccurs. You now
know which plugin is causing the problems.
- Finally, rename the plugin folder again.
- Log in to your website and activate all unproblematic plugins.
