Learn how to install WordPress on a server with Windows Server 2016, using Microsoft's free Web Platform Installer (Web PI) tool.
- A server with Windows 2016.
- A functioning website, configured with an active domain name.
Install the Web Platform Installer (Web PI) Tool
Web Platform Installer (Web PI) is a free tool from Microsoft for installing and managing components of your Windows server. The Web PI framework allows you to install applications like WordPress with a few clicks.
Use Remote Desktop to connect to your Windows Server 2016 server. Open a browser window and visit the Microsoft Web Platform Installer download page.
To download the installer to the server, click Free Download.
Or download the file to your desktop computer, then use Remote Desktop to upload it to the server.
Open the wpilauncher file, which you have downloaded.
Use Web PI to Install WordPress
Click the Applications tab.
Click to add WordPress to the list of applications to install.
Click Install to begin installing WordPress.
Enter the default MySQL password for
root. Note: This is the same as the initial password set for the Administrator server account. Then click Continue.
Click I Accept to accept the license terms.
Web Platform Installer will install WordPress and any required dependencies.
Select the website where you wish to install WordPress, then click Continue.
Enter the passphrase you want to use for the Authentication Key, Secure Authentication Key, and Logged In Key.
Note: The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) maintains a list of suggested passphrase words, along with instructions for randomly selecting words by rolling dice.
After entering in your passphrases, click Continue.
Click Finish to launch WordPress in a browser window and complete the installation.
Select the install language and click Continue.
Fill out the Site Title, Username, Password, Repeat Password, and Your Email fields, then click Install WordPress to complete the installation
