Connecting a Domain to a Static IP Address

You can use the 1&1 IONOS name servers to connect your domain to a static IP address. To do this you must configure an A Record (Address Resource Record) or an AAAA Record. An A or AAAA record is necessary for using a 1&1 IONOS domain with a Cloud Server, a Managed Cloud Hosting project, or a server located at a third-party provider, such as GoDaddy.

If you save your own IP address for the domain, it will no longer be connected to your 1&1 IONOS webspace or Website Builder.

Adjusting the A Record

You can adjust the A record by accessing the Manage Domains section of My 1&1 IONOS. Select the domain you want to connect to a static IP, and then click the DNS tab. You can modify the A Record by clicking the Actions icon and then Edit record. Enter the IPv4 address you want to connect to your domain in the Value text box and click Save.

Adjusting the AAAA Record

You also have the option of creating an AAAA record to connect your domain to an IPv6 address. To create an AAAA record, c lick the Actions icon and then Edit record. Enter the IPv6 address you want to connect to your domain in the value text box and click Save.

Checking Your Changes

Because of the decentralized structure of the domain name system, it can take up to an hour before the change takes effect everywhere. You can check the status of the A record using DNS Checker.
