Changing SMTP Server Settings to Send Email via IONOS Mail Servers

Starting on September 14, 2020, a country-specific outgoing mail server (SMTP server) will be required for use with IONOS mail servers.

Below you will find the steps to adjust your outgoing mail/SMTP server settings for the most common email programs. It is not necessary to create a new email account and the settings of your incoming mail server (POP3/IMAP) will not change.

  • For customers with IONOS contracts in other countries, different SMTP servers will apply.  These can be obtained from the respective help centers.
  • After September 14, 2020, sending emails will only be possible via the correct SMTP server

Microsoft Outlook

Outlook 2016/2019:
  • Open Outlook.
  • Click File > Account Information and select the email account to customize from the drop-down list.
  • Click the Account Settings > Server Settings > Outgoing Server field.
  • Adjust the server:

Mozilla Thunderbird

  • Open Thunderbird.

  • Click on the menu icon () and select Options > Account Settings. Alternatively, click the email address in the tree on the left and select View Settings for this Account in the Accounts section.

  • Click the Edit SMTP Server button.

  • In the field Server name, enter

Apple Mail (macOS)

macOS Catalina 10.15:

  • Open the Mail app on your Mac.

  • Click on Mail > Settings > Tab: Accounts .

  • Select the desired email account and choose the Server Settings tab.

  • In the Outgoing email server (SMTP) field, adjust the Hostname  to

  • Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
  • Select the desired account under Passwords & Accounts.

  • Open the Gmail app on your Android device.
  • Select the menu icon (☰) at the top-left corner and tap Settings.
  • Tap the desired email address to change.
