Disable the 1&1 IONOS SSL Proxy

For Webhosting packages

Please Note

The 1&1 IONOS SSL Proxy will be deactivated on 07/15/2019.

If you use the SSL Proxy with your domain, please follow the steps below as soon as possible to ensure the performance of your website is not affected, even after turning off the SSL proxy.

To disable the SSL proxy for your domain, you must delete the forwarding code from your .htaccess file:

  • Open your Webspace Explorer.
  • Go to the main directory (/) of your website.
  • Click on the .htaccess file to edit it.
  • Remove the following lines completely:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-By} !^United\ Internet\ SSL\ Proxy
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://ssl.perfora.net/yourdomain.com/$1

Instead of yourdomain.com, your domain name will already be entered there.

  • Click Save.

The change is active immediately after the lines have been deleted and saved.

Once you have deactivated the SSL proxy, your website content will no longer be transmitted in encrypted form.

For a quick and secure replacement option, we recommend that you protect your domain with an SSL certificate. A free SSL wildcard certificate from DigiCert is included in all 1&1 IONOS hosting/website packages and domains.
