This article describes how to set up a network drive using WebDAV on Windows 10.

WebDAV is a communication protocol with which you can conveniently copy data from your webspace to your PC or vice versa. Additionally, you can use a WebDAV network drive in Windows like a normal hard drive.

Caution

To set up a WebDAV network drive under Windows 10, you must edit the Windows registry. Please be careful since mistakes made while editing the registry can result in serious Windows problems.

Changing the Windows registry is done at your own risk.

To set up a network drive under Windows 10 using WebDAV, follow the steps below:

Prerequisite

You have logged into Windows 10 as an administrator.

Customizing the Windows Registry

How to customize the Windows registry:

  • Type regedit in the search box located on the Microsoft Windows 10 taskbar, and then press Enter.

  • Double-click Registry Editor. The Registry Editor will open.

  • In the Registry Editor, locate the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

  • Double-click the BasicAuthLevel entry.

  • Check the value specified there and change it to 2 if necessary.

  • Click OK.

  • Restart your computer.

Mounting the WebDAV Network Drive under Windows 10

How to mount a network drive using WebDAV under Windows 10:

  • Open Windows Explorer.

  • In the menu bar on the left, right-click Network.

  • Click on Connect network drive... .

  • Select the desired drive.

  • Click the Connect to a website link where you can save documents and pictures. The Add a Network Address window opens.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Select a custom network address.

  • Click Next. The Add a Network Address  window opens.

  • In the Internet or Network Address box, type:

    (For Windows hosting packages, use this value while replacing "your-domain.com" with your domain:)http://your-domain.com:80

    (For Linux hosting packages, use this value while replacing "your-domain.com" with your domain:) http://your-domain.com:81

Additional Information
  • No forwarding must be set up for the domain.

  • Please check the DNS settings of your 1&1 IONOS domain if the entered Internet or network address is not accepted. You can also reset the DNS settings if necessary.

  • Click Next.

  • Enter a name for the new network address.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Finish.

The WebDAV network drive is added. You can then open the WebDAV network drive in Windows Explorer.
