For Managed Dedicated Servers
In this article you will learn how to activate and configure the server services via My 1&1 IONOS.
The server services allow you to change the runtime settings for running programs.
Log in to the My 1&1 IONOS and select the appropriate contract.
Click in the navigation bar on the left under My Products on Server.
In the Server Services area, click Enable.
Now you can adapt the available resources to the requirements of your software,
for example, you can allocate more processing time to compute-intensive applications by increasing the value for the process runtime
Memory usage: To process the individual scripts, the Apache Web server provides a certain amount of memory. You can specify this size in KB and change it as required. Please note that this limit applies per process.
Process runtime: Here you can set the maximum CPU processing time that the Apache Web server may require to process individual scripts. If the script cannot be executed during this time, it is aborted. You prevent an overload of the server, and can reach your server with SSH, for example, if too many requests overload the web server at the same time:
With this value you can prevent too many visitors from accessing certain scripts simultaneously and thus disturbing the processing of already running processes (parallel web server requests, CGI scripts and cron jobs). This setting correlates directly with the process runtime setting.
Hint: If necessary, you can save applications in a directory that cannot be opened by the Apache server. Web access from outside is not possible to files in this directory. You can use this directory, for example, if you only want to start certain applications manually. You can read out the path to this directory under Program Folder. This directory cannot be changed.
Please note: Every change results in the automatic restart of the Apache web server. Therefore your website will be unavailable for about 1 minute.
Enter the desired values and then click Next.
To change the setting, click OK and
the server configuration will be changed accordingly. This is usually done within one minute. As this results in a restart of the corresponding services, your website will be unavailable for this period, and
if you want to change the settings later, click Edit.
