Setting Up FileZilla Using a 1&1 IONOS Configuration File

Here we show you how to set up the FTP program FileZilla quickly and easily for use with your secure FTP access.

To set up FileZilla for your access, you only need to download the configuration file with the connection data from your 1&1 IONOS and import it into FileZilla. Afterwards you can immediately connect to your web space by entering your password.

Download configuration for FileZilla:

Step 1

Log in to 1&1 IONOS and select the desired contract (if necessary).

Step 2

Select Secure FTP access in the left navigation.

Step 3

Click on the user name of the FTP access to be used.

The Settings & Connections page displays.

Step 4

Scroll down a bit and click Download Configuration for FileZilla in the To use your secure FTP access area.

Step 5

Save the configuration file to your computer.

Import configuration into FileZilla:

Step 1

Start FileZilla.

Step 2

Click in the menu on File > Import... .

A file dialog box appears.

Select the configuration file, and then click Open.

The settings are imported and a server entry is created.

Step 4

To manage your server entries, click on File > Server Manager in the menu.

The server manager opens.

Step 5

The server manager should now contain a profile entry with the FTP server name.

The following example shows a profile entry with SFTP as protocol, which was created during the import from a Linux hosting package. For Windows packages, however, the FTPS setting is used for the protocol.

Step 6

If you want to connect to the web space immediately, click on Connect in the server manager. Then enter your FTP password and click OK.

Tip: You can open the FileZilla Server Manager at any time via File > Server Manager .
