Would you like to improve the loading time and security of your website? The IONOS CDN (powered by Cloudflare) can help you.
How the IONOS CDN speeds up your website
A content delivery network (CDN) consists of a globally distributed network of servers. For the IONOS CDN, we use the established network of our partner, Cloudflare, which is one of the largest in the world with 330 locations.
Functionality
When visitors access your website, the content is initially retrieved from your origin server at IONOS and cached in the nearest Cloudflare data center. Cloudflare operates approximately 330 data centers worldwide. Visitors to websites using a CDN receive the data from the nearest data center, resulting in faster content loading times.
How it works:
- When a visitor accesses your website hosted at IONOS, static content such as images, CSS, and JavaScript files are transferred to the IONOS CDN.
- The IONOS CDN stores copies of this content in the cache on its globally distributed servers.
- For future requests, this content is loaded from the geographically closest CDN server instead of the original IONOS server.
This significantly reduces the loading time of your website.
When is it worth using the IONOS CDN?
The use of CDN is particularly useful:
If your websites contain static content such as images or other content that is not user-controlled.
If your website uses JavaScript.
If you have many website visitors from abroad.
You can test whether the performance of your website has improved as a result of using the CDN at www.webpagetest.org. To compare the performance, you can temporarily deactivate the CDN by activating Development Mode. You can find this option in the general settings of the CDN.
More security for your website
The IONOS CDN not only offers speed advantages, but also protects against threats. Data traffic is analyzed to automatically ward off harmful requests. As a result, the IONOS CDN effectively protects against:
- DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks
- Malicious bots and excessive crawling
- Spam comments
- SQL injection attempts
Available CDN variants
The IONOS CDN is available in the variants CDN Basic and CDN Pro, which differ in their range of functions. Further information on the differences and features can be found in the article Comparing CDN Basic and CDN Pro.
