A domain name represents the Internet address for your online content, such as a blog, website, etc.
A web presence is individually recognizable from the domain name – such as ionos.com. If you enter this Internet address in a browser, you will be taken to the corresponding website.
The right to use a domain name is obtained by a domain registration at a domain provider such as IONOS. Once registered, the domain name remains the property of the domain owner as long as they wish to keep it.
After a domain name has been cancelled or allowed to expire by the domain owner, the domain name becomes freely available again and can be registered by anyone.
