The IPS tag, also known as the provider tag or registrar tag, is the registration identification for a .uk domain. The tag identifies the provider where the domain is registered.
This protects .uk domains from unauthorized transfer requests and has a function similar to that of Authorization codes with transfers of non-UK domain extensions (such as .com or .net).
The IPS tag procedure applies to these domain extensions (among others):
1&1 IONOS IPS Tag: 1AND1, 1AND1-IONOS or IONOS
Each .uk domain registered with 1&1 IONOS uses the IPS tag 1AND1, 1AND1-IONOS or IONOS. As long as the 1&1 IONOS IPS tag is set to 1AND1, 1AND1-IONOS or IONOS, all domain transfer requests are ignored.
- Transfer from another provider to 1&1 IONOS:
If you transfer a .uk domain from another provider to 1&1 IONOS, you must change the IPS tag to 1AND1, 1AND1-IONOS or IONOS with your other provider.
- Transfer from 1&1 IONOS to another provider:
If you transfer a .uk domain to another provider, you must change the IPS tag at 1&1 IONOS to that of the new provider tag (provider/registrar).
