With an email client - also known as an email program or application - the user of an email address accesses their email account to read received and sent emails and to write new ones.

Providers of email addresses each offer their own email applications available from any browser, such as IONOS Webmail - but you can also install other email programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail, on your computer or laptop. You can set these up for email accounts at any provider and also manage several of them simultaneously using one program.

In an email client, you can use different folders, such as Inbox, Sent, Spam and Drafts. In most cases these have already been set up. In addition, you can create your own folders and name them individually.

Your mail provider's email client is always available online - but you can also set up other email clients and change them at any time.
