This article explains how to assign a new password for email addresses in the Mail Basic and Mail Business packages. You can then also use the new password to log in to Webmail.

Please Note

  • If you have forgotten the password for your email account, it is not possible to send you the current password or a new one. The password can only be reset directly by the contract holder in the  IONOS account in which your email address was created.

  • If you are the owner of the IONOS account and have forgotten the password, you can find information on how to reset it in the article Resetting your IONOS account password. With the IONOS account, you manage your contracts and the associated content and products, such as email addresses.

Change the password for the email account

To set a new password for your Mail Basic or Mail Business email address, complete the following:

  • If you have not already done so, log in to your IONOS account.
  • Click the Email tile. A table with the email addresses you have created will be displayed.
    Optional: If you have multiple email products, the corresponding contract must be selected before the table is displayed.
  • On the Email addresses page, next to the desired email address, click the three dots in the row in the Tasks column.
  • In the list that opens, click Change password.

  • On the Change email password page, enter the new password and complete your entry by clicking Change password. The change will take effect within a few minutes.

Please note that a new password can only be set for an email mailbox. You can identify an email mailbox by the envelope icon in the Type column.

Email forwarding addresses, represented by a palm tree icon in the Type column, do not have a password. Check whether a new password needs to be set for the forwarding destination.

Note

If you use an email program on your computer—e.g. Microsoft Outlook—or if you also access your emails on a mobile device, be sure to also change the password stored there in the account settings.
