In exceptional cases, failed security checks or other errors can block the issuance of an SSL certificate. In the IONOS SSL Management section of your account, you can identify a blocked certificate by a warning icon in the Status column. This article shows you how to remove these errors and complete the SSL certificate creation process.
Security Check Failed
To issue SSL certificates, IONOS works with the certification authority DigiCert (GeoTrust). Automated security checks for such things as trademark infringements take place during the certificate creation process. If the certificate creation process is aborted, only GeoTrust can verify the certificate.
To have GeoTrust check an aborted certificate creation, simply follow these steps:
Log in to IONOS.
Click on the Domains & SSL tile.
In the Portfolio section on the right, select SSL Certificates > Manage. An overview of your SSL certificates appears.
Move your mouse pointer over the warning icon in the Status column. An information text is displayed.
Copy the displayed order number.
Access the GeoTrust contact form.
Select Order Status and Updates as the subject of your message.
Fill out the form fields.
Click the Submit button to submit your information to GeoTrust.
Alternatively, you can contact GeoTrust customer service by phone or live chat.
Domain Validation Could Not Be Completed
Domain-validated (DV) SSL Certificates can be confirmed with a DNS entry or file. In the following cases, there may be errors that you can eliminate by resetting the domain properties:
- DNS-based validation: The DNS entry created for this purpose could not be read by GeoTrust.
- File-based validation: You have changed the IP address of your domain.
If the domain was assigned to an application from IONOS, such as MyWebsite Creator, before the SSL Certificate was issued, reset the domain settings.
