Disable Enhanced Security Policies for IE

For Windows Dedicated Servers 

This article explains how to disable the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Policy.

After installing a server image, IE Enhanced Security Policies are automatically enabled.

This article contains instructions for Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019.

Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Use Remote Desktop to connect to your server and start the Server Manager.

  • On the left, select the Server Manager category and click Configure Enhanced Security Configuration for IE in the Security Information section on the right.

  • You can turn the enhanced security settings off and on separately for administrators and users.

Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019

  • Connect to your server via Remote Desktop and start the Server Manager.

  • On the left, select the Local Server category. Here, you will find an entry called IE Enhanced Security Configuration. Click On.

  • You can now switch off the enhanced security settings for administrators and users separately and switch them on again later.
