With Windows Performance Monitoring, you can gather detailed performance information about resource usage and running processes, which you can then use for an accurate analysis of performance issues.

Users can create data collector sets to configure and schedule performance indicators.

To open the Windows Performance Monitor, do the following:

  • Right-click the Start icon in the taskbar.

  • Click Run.

  • Then, in the Run window, type perfmon.msc and click OK.

Creating a New Data Collector Set

Requirements
  • You logged on to the server as an administrator.

  • You have opened the Windows performance monitoring.

  • In the navigation bar on the left, click Data collector records.

  • Click Custom with the right mouse button.

  • Click New > Data collector set.

  • In the wizard, enter a name for the data collector set.

  • Select the Create manually (Advanced) option and click Next.

  • Under Create Data Logs, select Performance Indicators and click Next.

  • Click Add and select the desired performance indicators and click OK.

  • Click Next.

  • In the Root Directory field, select the directory where you want to store the data.

Saving the Data Collector Set

  • In the navigation bar on the left, click on the newly created data collector set.

  • Right-click DataCollector01 and select Properties.

  • In the Log Format list, select Comma Separated.

  • Specify the desired interval in the Sampling Interval and Units of Measure fields.

  • Click Apply and OK.

Executing Data Collector Records

  • Click on the newly created data collector set in the navigation bar on the left.

  • In the menu bar, click Action > Start.

Windows Performance Monitoring begins monitoring your server and saves the information to the location you specified.
