Updating Your Email Settings to TLS 1.2 for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP

Overview

To enable encryption (SSL/TLS) in your email program, do the following:

  • Open the email settings in your preferred email program.

  • Enable SSL/TLS encryption for the mailbox.

  • Use the following ports for the incoming and outgoing mail server:

    POP3 (SSL/TLS): 995
    IMAP (SSL/TLS): 993
    SMTP (SSL/TLS): 465

You can find more details about how to make these changes for some of the most common email programs below.

Please Note
  • If you are using a different email program than those listed below, we recommend that you check to see if that program supports TLS 1.2 or newer. If the email program you are using does not support TLS 1.2 and later, you will not be able to use it to connect to the IONOS email servers to send and receive messages after TLS 1.0/1.1 and unencrypted IMAP/POP3/SMTP connections are disabled.
  • If port 465 does not work in your email program, you can use port 587 in conjunction with STARTTLS encryption. If you cannot select STARTTLS in your email program, please use the TLS protocol. If this protocol is also not available, enable the Encryption option.
