Podman vs. Docker is an unequal battle, as the older tool has some edge, but is no longer supported by Red Hat. There are good reasons for this, mainly based on security. Docker had a lot of catching up to do here for a long time, and the shortcomings have been fixed in Podman. The lack of a central daemon and the resulting better protection could sooner or later convince even skeptical administrators. However, even Podman is not error-free, and minor problems still have to be solved. If this happens, Podman wins out against Docker by a narrow margin.
Many convinced Docker enthusiasts may sooner or later still switch or reorient themselves and, for example, end up opting for a Kubernetes alternative that Docker can still be used with. However, due to the great similarity of the two container solutions and Red Hat Linux’s efforts to establish Podman as a successor, this switch will most likely work well!
