Take control of your domain and its DNS traffic
As an optional security feature that can be added to any domain within a contract, Domain Guard helps protect you and your valuable asset. Just search for your desired domain in the domain check field above, then add the Domain Guard feature when prompted.
Improved security thanks to DNSSEC
Alongside other details, your DNS records store information on how your domain is connected to an IP address. You can change this by redirecting your domain or changing your mail server using mail exchanger records. Domain Guard protects your DNS records through DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions), leaving hackers unable to manipulate these important details or reroute them to fake destinations. As a result, your domain will only be used for what it was originally intended for.Protect your domain
Protection from DNS hijacking
If hackers get a hold of your domain, they could redirect it to fraudulent or malicious websites, allowing them to potentially collect the credit card details of your users or to claim legal ownership of your domain.
Domain Guard counters these attacks and protects your DNS records. You can rest assured knowing that you're the only person in control of your domain and all the data connected to it.
Any changes to your domain and its records must go through an additional verification step where a security link is sent to your individual email address. Adding this step of confirmation, hackers and other third parties stand no chance of stealing your domain. The following changes will need confirming via the verification process:
- Contact information for your domain
- Automatic domain renewal settings
- Blocking of domain transfers
- Nameserver records
Authenticated proof of ownership
IONOS will provide you with a domain ownership document free of charge which will include all the relevant data you need, such as the domain name, expiration date, your postal address and more. Due to privacy laws in Europe, many DNS record entries are now private and are no longer available via Whois Lookups. This document can be used to prove ownership of a particular domain to any third parties or when dealing with various authorities, institutes or companies.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
As long as you do not proactively cancel your domain (for which you will receive reminders from us in advance), we will auto-renew your contract. This way, you do not have to worry about your domain expiring unexpectedly.
Private domain registration makes sure that your Whois information is not visible to third parties. The Domain Guard, however, protects you against hackers trying to access and alter your DNS records.
The service costs $5 in the 1st year and $15 for each year thereafter.
